If you dont know who Frightened Rabbit is, you must not listen to rock music. Use of rock is taken lightly. The band from Scotland had wonderful success with thier second album, MIDNIGHT ORGAN FIGHT, and after sometime they are just about ready to release thier third, THE WINTER OF MIXED DRINKS, out March 2nd!!! Here is a live studio version of the new single, Nothing Like You Frightened Rabbit - Nothing Like You There is nothing like someone new this girl she was nothing like you she was not the cure for cancer
Sick of bands trying to sound like postal service, or add that extra hint of electronica, and failing miserably. Well, Freelance Whales are not among them. They manage to add hints of electronica into lovely indie pop songs that keep your attention. Thier debut album, Weathervanes, is very very good! 33 rpm rating: 7.5 out of 10 Hot Track -> Click to listen to: Hannah right click, save as - to download Mp3 Hailing from Queens, New York this band is one to watch!!!! New Album out March 23rd titled, Volume Two, from the lovely duo of Zooey Deschanel & master of folk, M. Ward. Album was said to be more mature, with the duo taking more risks in the studio due to feeling more comfortable with one another. Judging by there new song, In the Sun, I'd have to agree. I'd be darn suprised if their second album wasnt btter than thier first!
What the hell is Efterklang? Well for starters its dutch for "after noise" or more losely translated as, "rememberance." And second, its a beautiful band from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band consists of 4 core members, however uses up to 10 members live and for recordings. I recently came across this band and was instantly blow away by there new album, "Magic Chairs" which is due out 2/23/10. This multi-instrumental band has hints of electronica, among the use of piano, strings, horns, well a lot of great stuff, but never sounds over complicated. Check out a live shot:

As part of this Blog I am dedicated to now and then spread the word about a band I come across, who is unsigned. Today, I came across a wonderful EP by Little Yosemite. The one man project, of James McGaha, hails from Minneapolis. James also plays in a band with his brother and friend, History Books, who has an album coming out this January.
Regarding, the Little Yosemite project, James compiled a mellow, soft, and winter atmospheric EP, "Through the Winter". 1. Peaches and Pears 2. Dig a Ditch 3. The Stump, The Branch 4. To Home From School 5. The Falls
It is available for purchase here: http://littleyosemite.bigcartel.com/ The Vinyl EP comes in three different colors to chose from and is only $6
Who the hell is Langhorne Slim? Well, for starters his name is Sean Scolnick and hails from Pennsylavia. He sings simple folk songs with an alt. country feel. With a total of 3 full length albums and few EPs, With the most recent release being "Be Set Free"
Was unaware of Mr. Slim until coming across Be Set Free, and I must say it forced me to dip into his back catalog. And the good news all his albums are listenable and beautiful. 33 1/3rpm rating: 8 out of 10 hot track: Land of Dreams Download: I Love You, But Goodbye -> http://www.mediafire.com/?xzmq3imbowh
A bird with clipped wings can still sing but can no longer fly...
The indie folk band from Portland has finally stopped touring, after so many shows to support their debut album "Three Rounds and a Sound." It bugs me some when a band tours for years on one album, but when its such a wonderful album who can blame them. Anyway, the band just released a iTunes Live Session EP. Comes with a cover and a NEW song (Get it Out). I must say, it will be a shock if there sophmore album isnt up to par with the indie folk scene.... Title Track from the debut: "3 Rounds and a Sound" Get it here! and go buy there album!! http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1junvntmmk3 Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/blindpilot Offical: http://blindpilotmusic.wordpress.com/
A Chorus of Storytellers is set to release 2/2/10 on the always convincing Sub Pop records.
It is the 5th full length release from the genius mind of Jimmy Lavalle, who has been working under the Album Leaf name for 10 years. A project that started in his bedroom where he was a one man wonderkin. All of the Album Leafs work has primarily been the musical work of Mr. Lavalle. However, "A Chorus of Storytellers" was record as a Full Band adventure.
Album Leaf's previous album "Into the Blue Again" was gorgeous and heartfelt, and possibly the best work to date. The new album is good, but unfortunately not great.
